The Northern Health Shield
The Northern Health Shield is a preventive healthcare initiative designed to strengthen health security in Northern Ghana following the withdrawal of major international aid. The program shifts care from crisis response to early protection, ensuring limited resources are used where they save the most lives.
Delivered by a network of RN Entrepreneurs operating decentralized Health Hubs, the Shield provides a layered defense consisting of:
- Viral Shields – Targeted vaccinations against high-risk diseases such as Typhoid, Meningitis and Hep B
- Safe Blankets – Seasonal protection through deworming and malaria chemoprevention
- Cultural Bridges – Scientifically validated local remedies, including Moringa and Papaya seeds, to manage underlying health burdens
By coordinating logistics and public health resources efficiently, the Northern Health Shield enables each donor contribution to unlock significantly greater life-saving impact at the community level.
How Can You Support the Northern Health Shield
Individuals, organizations and grant partners can support this project across three strategic pathways, each designed to deliver measurable, high-impact outcomes through our Smart Grid health model.
Capital Investment
CapExLaunch new Health Hub capacity through a one-time “Medical Capital” grant.
- Anchor Asset: Clean water access via mechanized borehole.
- Health Hub facility: A simple 3-room clinic footprint (materials + local labor).
- Connectivity & power: Systems that enable reliable service delivery.
- Equipment & initial stock: Diagnostics + seed supplies to begin operations.
Operational Support
OpExStrengthen delivery capacity for preventive protection and last-mile logistics.
- Leverage model logistics: Motorbikes and fuel/transport that enables wider deployment.
- Auto Push: Vehicles and fuel to deliver medical supplies to Health Hubs and support monitoring and evaluation activities.
- Human capital: Supporting frontline delivery networks and follow-up.
- Local economic stimulus: Sourcing community inputs where appropriate.
Strategic Triage
High-ImpactTarget support toward ranked interventions to maximize impact per dollar.
- Viral Shield logistics: Help accelerate protection against key threats.
- Safe Blanket scale: Seasonal prevention that builds trust and reduces illness.
- Last-mile delivery: Transport and distribution capacity where access is hardest.
Community & Land Partnerships
EnablersLocal partnerships that make long-term health hubs sustainable and defended.
- Land tenure: Secure, long-term space for permanent “safe zones.”
- Village contribution: Labor/material support that strengthens ownership.
- Community protection: Shared responsibility for safeguarding local assets.
