Loam: From Contamination to Clean Water – 500+ Gifted

In the remote community of Loam, access to safe drinking water was not just limited, it was dangerous. When our team arrived for the borehole commissioning, The Give Basic Needs team were met with a heartbreaking reality: families were collecting water from an open, dug-out well polluted by runoff from rainfall and surrounding waste. It was murky, unsafe, and far from what any human being should have to consume.

But today, that story has changed.

Through our latest water project, we have successfully commissioned a new borehole that now serves the entire community of Loam bringing free potable water to over 500 residents, including women, children, and elders who have long lived at the mercy of unhygienic water sources.

Restoring Dignity and Protecting Health

Water is at the center of family life; used every day to cook, clean, wash, and drink. Yet in Loam, people had no choice but to rely on a contaminated source, exposing themselves to waterborne diseases and the constant fear of illness.

With this new borehole in place, the people of Loam can now draw water that is safe, clean, and reliable, a true turning point in their quality of life. Children can drink confidently. Mothers no longer need to boil water just to reduce the risk of illness. And the community can now look toward a healthier, safer future.

What once posed a threat to life has now been replaced with hope and relief.

A Community Transformed by Access

The borehole is now central to daily life in Loam not just in location, but in significance. During the commissioning, community members expressed both joy and a deep sense of relief. For the first time, many felt what it means to access a basic human right without fear.

At Give Basic Needs, we are committed to reaching the communities that have been overlooked for far too long. The story of Loam reminds us that even the smallest village deserves clean water and a fair chance at wellness and dignity.
