In many remote communities across Northern Ghana, preventable illnesses often go undetected because healthcare services and clean water are not easily accessible. Families may travel long distances for medical care, while unsafe water and poor sanitation continue to increase health risks.
These challenges inspired the development of Northern Health Shield, Give Basic Needs’ prevention-first Medical & WASH initiative designed to bring essential services directly into underserved communities before health challenges become crises.

The Northern Health Shield Model

Test
We provide community-based medical screenings for Hepatitis B and C, HIV, malaria, typhoid, and other medical risks to improve early detection in underserved communities.

Prevent
We support vaccination, deworming, maternal care education, condom distribution, hygiene support, sanitary pad distribution, and preventive medical awareness.

Treat & Follow Up
People who test positive for HIV, Hepatitis B, or Hepatitis C are connected to partner hospitals for confirmation, referrals, treatment guidance, and continued support.

We strengthen long-term community wellbeing through mechanized boreholes, clean water access, patient record systems, and ongoing community engagement.
