The Northern Health Shield: Prevention-First Healthcare & Clean Water Access
Across underserved and hard-to-reach communities in Northern Ghana, The Northern Health Shield is expanding access to preventive healthcare and clean water through integrated Medical & WASH support. Most recently, on June 27, 2026, the initiative reached 790 community members in Bamboli with screening, Hepatitis B vaccination, deworming, hygiene education, sanitary pads, condoms, antibacterial soaps, and digital medical record collection through the Shield App.
This builds on the April 19, 2026 Kpatinga pilot, which reached over 1,000 community members with free screenings, vaccination support, deworming, wound care, hygiene support, and preventive medical education. Findings from both communities continue to show the urgent need for prevention-first care: in Bamboli, 1 in 22 people tested positive for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, or HIV, while in Kpatinga, approximately 1 in every 15 people screened tested positive for one of these infections.
Through The Northern Health Shield, Give Basic Needs is helping communities detect health risks earlier, prevent avoidable illnesses, connect patients to follow-up care, and improve long-term access to safe water.
