FOCUS FOR 2026

Community Medical & WASH Initiative in Northern Ghana

In Northern Ghana, particularly across underserved and hard-to-reach communities within the Tamale Metropolis and Gushegu Municipality, Give Basic Needs is expanding integrated medical and WASH interventions focused on community medical screening, prevention, treatment referrals, hygiene support, and clean water access.

Recent community findings revealed that approximately 1 in every 15 individuals tested was living with Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, or HIV, reinforcing the urgent need for expanded medical screening, prevention, follow-up support, and clean water interventions.

A simple way to understand the approach

Our community model combines medical screening, prevention, treatment referrals, hygiene support, and clean water access into one connected response system.

Each community intervention is paired with a mechanized borehole within the intervention community, helping improve long-term medical and hygiene outcomes through safer and more reliable access to clean water.

Boreholes are strategically installed at least 20 kilometers apart to expand clean water coverage across underserved and hard-to-reach communities.
