At Give Basic Needs, we are driven by the profound belief that every individual deserves access to essential resources. This belief is crystallized in our motto, “Small Acts Big Happy,” and is what fuels our ongoing commitment to providing critical Medical services, Food, and Shelter in high-priority regions like Northern Ghana.
Recently, our dedicated teams completed a large-scale health outreach event, providing screenings and consultations to community members and students in Gmanicheri and surrounding villages. In a world facing unprecedented reductions in foreign aid and strain on global health programs, our ability to deliver proactive, grassroots care is more critical than ever.
Unveiling Hidden Health Realities
Access to timely health information is the first step toward reducing suffering. Our medical screenings focus on detecting contagious diseases early, enabling prompt intervention and safeguarding the wider community. At this recent event, we tested 1,500 individuals for core health conditions. The results powerfully illustrate the necessity of these community outreach programs:

These findings go beyond statistics; they represent 17 individuals who can begin treatment for HIV, or 99 people who can receive timely intervention for Malaria, transforming hidden health challenges into opportunities for healing and empowerment.
| Condition Screened | Number of Positive Cases | Percentage of 1,500 Tested |
| Malaria | 99 | 6.6% |
| Hepatitis B | 70 | 4.7% |
| Hepatitis C | 48 | 3.2% |
| Typhoid | 41 | 2.7% |
| HIV | 17 | 1.1% |
A Comprehensive Approach to Prevention
Our medical philosophy is centered on holistic prevention. To maximize the positive impact of our screenings, we ensure that preventative measures and educational resources are readily available:
• Combating STIs: To help prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases like HIV/AIDS, our teams distributed preventative resources, including condoms, alongside essential health counseling. We often undertake these efforts in collaboration with partners such as the Ghana AIDS Commission.
• Empowering Women and Girls: We understand that hygienic management is crucial for education and dignity. We distributed sanitary pads and provided health education, recognizing that lack of resources globally impacts hundreds of millions of people who cannot hygienically manage menstruation.
• WASH as Medicine: Health starts with the basics. Our commitment to securing safe water access continues through vital projects like the refurbishment and drilling of boreholes across Northern Ghana, combating waterborne illnesses and ensuring clean, potable water for thousands of people.
Our ability to raise local funds that can support initiatives like testing for 22,000 individuals for contagious diseases annually is a testament to the resilience of community-focused intervention when facing global funding shifts.
