On 27th June 2026, Give Basic Needs successfully carried out a Medical Outreach in Bamboli, Gushegu Municipality, under our Northern Health Shield initiative. The outreach was designed to strengthen community health through preventive healthcare services, early disease detection, health education, and the distribution of essential health supplies.
For many people living in underserved communities, routine medical screening remains inaccessible due to distance, cost, and limited healthcare infrastructure. By bringing these services directly into the community, we continue working toward a future where quality healthcare is available to everyone, regardless of where they live.
Outreach Services
Community members benefited from a range of free preventive healthcare services, including:
- HIV Screening
- Hepatitis B Screening
- Hepatitis C Screening
- Hepatitis B Vaccination
- Health Education
- Deworming Medication
- Sanitary Pad Distribution
- Condom Distribution
- Soap Distribution
These interventions form part of our integrated approach to improving community health while promoting disease prevention and healthier lifestyles.
Outreach Impact
Using the Shield App, our team recorded 790 patient encounters during the outreach.
The recorded interventions included:
- 790 patient encounters
- 572 Hepatitis B vaccinations administered
- 270 sanitary pads distributed
- 70 condoms distributed
- 578 soaps distributed
Early Detection Saves Lives
One of the most important outcomes of the outreach was the identification of community members requiring immediate medical attention.
Our screening results showed:
- 21 people tested positive for Hepatitis B
- 13 people tested positive for Hepatitis C
- 4 people tested positive for HIV
Every individual who tested positive received counseling from our healthcare professionals and was referred to the appropriate health facility for further assessment, treatment, and long-term care.
Early detection remains one of the most effective ways of improving health outcomes while preventing further disease transmission within communities.
The First Live Deployment of the Shield App
The Bamboli outreach also marked the first live deployment of the Shield App during a Give Basic Needs medical event.
The application enabled our healthcare teams to digitally record patient encounters, interventions, and screening results in real time, providing valuable insights into community health while supporting data-driven decision-making.
As with any pilot implementation, some interventions and supplies distributed during the outreach were not fully captured in the system as healthcare workers balanced patient care with learning a new digital workflow. The experience has provided valuable lessons that will guide additional volunteer training, workflow refinements, and operational improvements to ensure even more complete and accurate data collection during future outreaches.
Looking Ahead
Every outreach reminds us that preventive healthcare changes lives.
Every person screened gains valuable knowledge about their health.
Every vaccination strengthens protection against preventable disease.
Every counseling session offers guidance, reassurance, and a pathway to treatment.
Every preventive item distributed contributes to healthier families and stronger communities.
The Bamboli outreach represents another important step in our mission to make quality healthcare more accessible across Northern Ghana.
Thank You
This impact would not have been possible without the dedication of our healthcare professionals, volunteers, donors, partners, and supporters who continue to believe in our mission.
Together, we are making healthcare more accessible, strengthening communities through prevention, and creating lasting impact where it is needed most.
Small Acts. Big Happy.
